No Dancing, Only Welding!

I got pulled into this awesome project just chatting with some friends of friends at a backyard birthday party! Something along the lines of expressing a desire to make large format art, but not having the resources or calling to go out on my own.

I learned how to MIG weld, and got around 20 hours in welding steel beams and plates. I figured out how to bend pipes into the right curvatures, bent probably around 300 ft of pipes with new friends, and jigged letter sections for final welding. Maybe not as hard as crossfit, but it was heavy lifting! I also had the pleasure of optimizing the design around volunteer fabrication: minimizing steps, tools, and cost.

It was phenomenal to be part of a team where everyone was a volunteer coming together just to do something cool together, and push to get this built ahead of driving to the desert and then standing everything up out there in the wind and elements. Really excited that this is in GGP everytime I go for a jog or bike that way, and I hope it’s brought joy to at least a few more folks in the community! More public art!!
